Woman-preneur and Founder of Power to Girls Foundation, Aisha Addo has implored women to consider the safety of their online spaces.

According to her, women should not entertain demeaning actions and cyber-bullying in any form that makes social media an uncomfortable space.

Aisha Addo was speaking to UniversNews, as part of the special edition of the International Women’s day on UniversNews. Seasoned young women in the technology and digital space shared challenges women faced and measures that could create a thriving and inclusive space for women and girls in technology.

The International Women’s Day theme for this year was “DigitALL: Innovation and technology for gender equality”, in alignment with the priority to revive the woman space, recognizing and celebrating the women and girls who are championing the advancement of transformative technology and digital education.

Aisha Addo urged women and girls to prioritize the value of safe online spaces. She explained that was the purpose for which her organization created an app to support the notion.

“We have to take our social space into own hands. You should not at any point in time be okay with someone bullying you…This is part if the reasons why my organization created MyPower App because there is value in creating safer online spaces,” she revealed.

Co-founder of Copianto AI, Daniella Darlington, who was also speaking to UniversNews, mentioned the need for online safety policies and strategies to curb cyber bullying and other related issues.

“Women sometimes do not know how best to address these issues so if is important that we create these strategies and policies so everyone can feel safe to leverage these kind of technologies.”

Founder of Alice Talkworld, Alice Yakubu also urged ladies to utilize the digital space profitably to lift the face of women. She added that social media has become a global village for which women must be cautious of the content they put out.

“Most ladies do not get safe online surroundings because they don’t make good use of it. Social media has a wide reach and some ladies put content that might affect their future.”

My Power App is an initiative to create a platform that protects and empowers girls. On this platform, girls connect with mentors and other girls to learn and socialize in a secure online setting.
