Women FA Cup: Army and Police Ladies book final spot

As the 2023/24 Ghanaian Women’s FA Cup approaches its climax, two standout Ghanaian women’s clubs have emerged, shaping the competition’s final stages. Before we delve into the final match, let’s review how the semi-final fixtures unfolded.

Semi-Final 1 – Army Ladies vs Epiphany Ladies
The first semi-final berth took place at the Madina Zongo Astro Turf on Sunday afternoon as Army Ladies rubbed shoulders with Epiphany Ladies. Pressure on the Ghana Army ladies made Latiffa Mohammed score an own goal in the 43rd minute to hand Epiphany a half-first victory. Army Ladies corrected their mistakes from the first half and quickly equalized in the 59th minute from an Adama Alhassan strike.

There were no goals thereafter after a 1-1 draw and the game had to be decided in Extra Time. Army ladies brought extra energy in Extra time with Vera Bema securing the second goal in the 112th minute, ultimately propelling them to victory and securing their spot in this year’s final competition.

Semi-Final 2 – Police Ladies vs Supreme Ladies
At the Madina Zongo AstroTurf, the second semi-final seemed like a straightforward affair for Police Ladies. With two rapid goals scored within four minutes, it was evident that the Police team outmatched Supreme Ladies. Juanita Aguadze’s double strikes in the 2nd and 4th minutes, accompanied by Mary Berko’s goal in the 26th minute, secured their victory within the first half.

Although Supreme Ladies managed to score a consolation goal in the second half through Faustina Tiwa in the 86th minute, it was not enough to change the outcome.

The Final – Police Ladies vs Army Ladies
Absent from this year’s final are last year’s finalists, Hassacas Ladies and Ampem Darkoa Ladies. Nonetheless, the stage is set for a “Service” Grand Finale. Police Ladies will lock horns with Army Ladies Football Club in this years Womens FA Cup Competition.

Police Ladies won the competition in 2016 and will be hoping to win it again for the second time. However, Army Ladies are into the final for the first time in their history and are hoping to win the prestigious trophy.

The Final is scheduled to be played on June 7 at a venue yet to be decided.
