UENR: One student dead in armed robbery attack

In a shocking turn of events, tragedy befell the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) as an armed robbery unfolded on Tuesday, April 16th, 2024, leaving one student dead.

The incident occurred at approximately 7:00 pm as Level 300 and 400 BSc. Renewable Energy Engineering students were returning from a field trip to the BUI Power Authority.

In a press statement signed by the Deputy Registrar of the University Relations Office, Alfred Appiah, The University confirmed the heartbreaking news, adding that the incident took place during a return from a field trip.

“The University Management wishes to inform the general public and parents that an unfortunate incident happened yesterday, Tuesday, 16th April, 2024 at 7:00 pm as a group of armed robbers attacked some Level 300 and 400 BSc. Renewable Energy Engineering students during their return from a field trip to BUI Power Authority.”

The institution assured that their thoughts and condolences are with the bereaved family during this difficult time.

It further addressed that the remaining students, who endured the terrifying ordeal, have undergone medical treatment and have been discharged. Recognizing the traumatic impact of the event, the University has initiated counseling services to provide support to the affected students as they cope with the profound loss and trauma.

“The remaining students have received medical treatment and have been discharged and are currently going through the necessary counseling.”

Following the incident, the Sunyani Police Command Team swiftly apprehended a suspect, offering a glimmer of hope for justice amid the grief-stricken atmosphere.

The University further urged neighboring communities to remain vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement authorities to prevent such tragedies from recurring.

This devastating loss serves as a stark reminder of the pressing need for enhanced security measures and community vigilance to safeguard against such senseless violence.
