The Student Representative Council of the University of Ghana (UGSRC) has initiated a weekly press conference which is expected to take place every Monday morning, 8:45 am at the SRC Union building.
The press conference is aimed at providing an avenue for the council to debrief its activities, programs, projects and other matters relating to the UGSRC 65th anniversary to the entire student and populace and key stakeholders in the university.
This was contained in a press statement released by the UGSRC on the 21st May, 2023.
The maiden edition of this press conference held on 22nd May, 2023 at the union building saw key activities that were to be undertaken by the Council such as Food Bank initiative, the WiFi extension to the southern part of the compass, and renovations in certain residences for the benefits of the students unveiled.
Some of these projects are related to the UGSRC’s 65th anniversary celebrations.
All these were revealed at the Press Conference by the UGSRC Public Relations Officer, Richmond Jackson and the Head of UGSRC Academic Committee, Graham Oduro.
“As we speak, a scholarship booking is available with the SRC Yi Bi Boa scholarship. So we have the SRC Yi Bi Boa scholarship which is accepting applications from now through to 14th of June. We have about three weeks ahead for deadline.”
“So in this year, the SRC has partnered with a driving school called Stevens Driving School. They are just located around East Legon. The SRC has secured the most accommodative package for students.”
“In partnership with Passport Ghana, we are providing the avenue for students to acquire passports at the most accommodative package. Very affordable. Students can secure a passport with less stress, as the SRC has made provisions for that. It started last semester.”
“We want to convert at least one reading room in one of the four diaspora halls into an E-Discussion room so that students can have their discussions with strong internet access. We are working on getting funds to be able to kick start that project as soon as possible.”
“At Legon Hall, we are looking at the possibility of innovating their TV room for students, so that students can have a good experience when they go into their TV rooms.”
“We also happen to also look at the possibility of extending WiFi to the southern part of the campus, which is not the case currently.”
“As part of our anniversary, we are also hoping for volunteers to volunteer with us on any of our programs. If you want to help with registration, ushering, publicity, or anything else, the links will be made available for students to apply.”
