Momo agents to limit withdrawals to GH 1,000 per transaction

Mobile money agents across various service providers in Ghana will implement a temporary measure to limit cash withdrawal to a maximum of GH 1,000 per transaction effective 1st December 2023.

This measure is to ensure the fair treatment of Mobile money agents in Ghana as part of an ongoing dialogue between the associations and service providers.

This agreement was announced in a joint statement issued by four Mobile money agents Associations; the Mobile Money Association of Ghana (MMAG), the Northen Agents Association of Ghana (NOMAAG), the Mobile Money Advocacy group (MOMAG) and the ABAG. The statement was released on 30th November, 2023, which was signed by the presidents of the afore-mentioned associations.

“Effective 1st December 2023, a temporary measure will be implemented, restricting cash withdrawals to a maximum of Ghc 1,000.00 per transaction to customers for all Mobile Money Agents across various service providers. Our goal is to ensure fair compensation for the dedicated agents.”

The Association further revealed that they will be working actively with service providers to address concerns raised by the Association within the one-month period. It was however stated additional action plans would be carried out if no change is made after a month.

“During this period, we will continue to actively engage with service providers to address the commission review concerns raised. If, within the one-month period, there is no avorable adjustment, we will regrettably have to implement further action plans.”

The Association called on the support and solidarity of customers, stakeholders and Partners to help guarantee the long therm visibility of Mobile Money services in Ghana.

“We urge you to join us in mobilizing support for fair compensation to Mobile Money Agents. Your cooperation and solidarity are pivotal in ensuring the sustainability of Mobile Money services in Ghana.”
