Station Manager of Radio Univers, Ghana’s leading campus-based airwaves in the University of Ghana, Dr. Abubakari Sidick Ahmed has unveiled an ambitious plan to transform the station from a purely campus-focused entity to a semi-commercial broadcaster.

Speaking at its 30th-anniversary launch event in Accra on April 26, 2024, Dr. Sidick emphasized the challenges the firm had endured so far as a non-profit profit organization and the need for this strategic shift.

“Radio Univers has been operating as a campus community platform for thirty good years as a not-for-profit organization and this has had its ups and downs; hence the need to change the plan outline. Our strategic shift from a typical campus station to accepting a new model that would run concurrently as a business is to establish a solid and sustainable financial foundation for the firm by expanding our revenue sources to enable us to make reasonable investments to enhance the quality of our broadcasting and programming content.”

The media expert also touched on the proposed initiatives to establish the firm’s revenue generation.

“It’s towards enhancing the quality of our broadcasting and programming content, upgrading our technology, and maintaining our position as a leading youth-focused campus radio station. We will combine the following; sponsorship and advertising, events and promotions, merchandising, digital media campaign, and collaborative part match. “

In the course of his proposition, Dr. Sidick disclosed his enterprising plan to organize a university campus trade and business fair which would feature exhibition stalls, innovative peak sessions, startup competitions, panel discussions and workshops, and networking programs.
