The Institute of Directors-Ghana is set to establish a Media Coalition for Good Corporate Governance as a means of making media practitioners strategic partners in the promotion of corporate governance in the country.

The CEO, Mr. Clement Wiredu, made this announcement when the Institute hosted a delegation from the Targeted Review Mission Team of the Ghana chapter of the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) at their office in Airport City, Accra.

According to the CEO, promoters of good corporate governance need to work with the media to advance the industry’s vision, which he said could only be achieved if the media is well educated on matters of good corporate governance and Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) issues.

“In addition to our SME Peer Influencer Program, we are also targeting the media as strategic partners. In the past, it used to be just radio and newspapers. These days, we have online and rural radio which are closer to the people. Educating the media on good corporate governance will ensure that they understand what we do and can promote the ideas we share as well as investigate and expose the negative practices in the industry,” he said.

On behalf of the Council President of IoD-Gh, Mr. Rockson Kwasi Dogbegah, the vice president of the council, Rev. Mrs. Angela Carmen Appiah, expressed her happiness at the meeting between the two organizations and entreated the entourage to ensure that actions are taken to achieve the decisions made regarding good corporate governance on the continent of Africa.

“We should not just be spectators in good corporate governance. We must walk the talk,” she intoned.

On his part, the Team Lead for the Targeted Review Mission of the APRM, Ambassador Aly El-Hefny, congratulated IoD-Gh on the projects and programs the Institute was carrying out.

He was happy that IoD-Gh hosted the APRM since the main aim of their visit was to know more about IoD-Gh’s vision and mission as a professional body and how it is contributing to the aim of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCTA).

In typical Ghanaian hospitality fashion, after the official discussions, IoD-Gh treated the visiting team, to a cocktail party of fruit juices and finger foods.
