Security analyst, Adib Saani, has cautioned individuals to be security conscious during this festive season.

According to him, Christmas is a peak time for burglary, with opportunistic thieves on the look-out for all sorts of goodies.

Speaking to UniversNews, he cautioned individuals to be wary of who they invite into their homes during this christmas.

“Since it’s the holiday and the banks would have been closed so you’ll keep lots of money on you. A lot of Ghanaians will keep expensive things like new laptops, smartphones so the criminals know and break into homes because surely, they know they might get valuables. friends and family will be coming from all over and they don’t come empty handed. they come with lots of gifts”.

People will want to decorate their premises, have a face lift just for the season and invite different artisans into our homes from masons to carpenters to plumbers etc. be very careful not to give them so much access, lets hide all valuables as according to crime statistics, those who break into our homes are people we know or they know us. The scrappers around might not be criminals but they become opportunistic criminals when they notice loopholes in your household,” he said.

Adib Saani also shared, with Ghanaians, some tips on how to be safe this Christmas. He gave 5 points which include:

  1. Make sure the money you keep money on you is what you need.
  2.  Don’t keep all your money in one pocket; keep some in your front pockets and in your bag pack.
  3. Avoid one routine, especially those who close late.
  4. Don’t Leave Signs You Are Away;  Ask a neighbor or a friend to check on your property, and remove spare keys from the outside.
  5. Beware of criminals posing as couriers, delivery riders, or service providers in an attempt to gain access to your premises.
