Wenchi-based Young Apostles Football Club has qualified for the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League Season after defeating Techiman Heros in the Division One League zone one playoff final at the Accra Sports Stadium on Tuesday.
The two clubs came top of their respective zones at the end of the Division One League Season. Techiman Heros were league leaders in zone 1 A with 53 points after 28 games played. On the other hand, Young Apostles Football Club topped zone 1 B with 54 points after 28 matches played.
The two teams faced off in a one-legged playoff to decide who would represent the zone in the Upcoming Ghana Premier League Season. Young Apostles opened the scoring in the 8th minute after a superb strike from Kasim Sule. Techiman Heros eventually equalized through Mohammed Adama in the 40th minute, just five minutes before the first half whistle was blown.
Both sides came into the game strongly in the second half but failed to score the second goal as the game needed to be decided in eextra time. During extra time, Young Apostles FC came close to scoring the second goal but all goal attempts proved futile. The game then traveled to a penalty shootout, where the Wenchi club won 2-1.
For the first time in history, Young Apostles Football Club will play in Ghana’s top-flight league after years of playing in Division One. Young Apostles Football Club will join Vision Football Club and Basake Holy Stars as the clubs that have qualified from the 2023/24 Access Bank Division One League to the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League.
