The University of Ghana Students’ Representative Council (UGSRC) Electoral Commissioner, Nana Mensah Bonsu, has assured the student body of a free, fair, and transparent election, citing recent reforms to the SRC’s constitutional instrument as a major step toward restoring trust in the electoral process.

‎Speaking on Radio Univers’ Campus Exclusive, Bonsu emphasised the commission’s readiness to manage challenges that may arise before, during, and after the polls. He highlighted proactive measures, including robust dispute resolution mechanisms and a commitment to handling grievances and petitions without compromising the integrity of the results.

‎“We plan on engaging UGITD to release voting links a day prior to the election to ensure students receive them on time and avoid irregularities. We’re also developing a mechanism to curb the hacking of student accounts during this crucial period. Students are advised not to share their account details with anyone.”

‎He further noted that under the revised constitution, individuals with electoral concerns can seek redress through the proper channels. However, the filing of complaints will not delay the declaration of results unless deemed necessary by the Electoral Commissioner.

‎Bonsu also addressed concerns about low voter turnout and logistical issues related to the university’s email migration from Gmail to Outlook. He said the commission is collaborating with UGITD to support students facing difficulties and ensure no one is disenfranchised.

‎“The major stakeholders we plan to work with include student leaders across departments, JCRs, and the SRC itself,” he said. “These leaders have wide influence, and we believe they can help amplify voter education and increase engagement.”

‎The UGSRC Electoral Commission is expected to roll out additional activities in the lead-up to the polls to boost awareness, ensure accessibility, and uphold the credibility of the election.
