UG: Careers and Counselling Centre kickstart Career Week’ 2023 with Career Forum

The University of Ghana Careers and Counseling Centre has held an Industry/Academia Forum to kick-start the much anticipated Career Week’ 2023.

The event took place at the Cedi Conference Centre in the University of Ghana on the 27th of March, 2023.

Director of the Careers and Counseling Centre, Rev. Dr. Mrs. Bridget Ben-Naimah explained that the event was aimed at helping the University Community understand the importance of networking in career building.

“This year’s event is under the theme, ‘Embracing Opportunities: Charting Your Career Path’ and it is to enlighten the University Community on the importance of networking and interacting with professionals in their respective fields.”

The Industry/Academia Forum saw a panel of influential entrepreneurs and personalities from diverse backgrounds interact and share experiences and insights on how students can maximize potential and take advantage of existing opportunities.

Panelists of the event were Director of the University of Ghana Sports Directorate, Dr. Bella Bello Bitugu, Media Personality, Kafui Dey, Country Manager of ALx Ghana, Joshua Ghanem and Lead Consultant at La Lune Digital Ltd, Derrick Crentsil with Broadcast Journalist, Caleb Kudah as the moderator of the session.

Dr. Bella Bello Bitugu encouraged participants to find opportunities to achieve their goals.

He also advised them to learn more to instrumentalize ventures they embark on.

“There are a lot of opportunities you can grasp, the opportunities will not come to you as you sit in the confines of your room, try new things always and then make instrumentalization of all the ventures you embark on.”

Sponsors at the event as well as companies seeking to create a thriving space for jobs and internships had the chance to educate students on the opportunities available.

These sponsors include TotalEnergies, L’aîné HR, SEO Africa, ALx Data Science Programme, Moovemart, FBNBank, Confucius Institute of the University of Ghana, Lead for Ghana amongst others.

The Career Week is an annual event organized by the University’s Career’s and Counselling Centre (UGCCC).

It is held to create a link between the university and potential employers, providing students with invaluable guidance and resources to support their academic, personal and career development.

Upcoming activities in the week include the Corporate Icon Contest on 29th March, 2023, and the Dcoded Show on Thursday, 30th March, 2023.

The Dcoded Show is set to discuss psychological and emotional challenges that could arise from various situations in the lives of students in the University community.
