Education Minister, Haruna Iddrisu

The Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu has stated that appointment letters issued to some teachers  by the erstwhile NPP administration were either forged or illegally issued leading to the challenges being faced by the beneficiaries.

Speaking in an interaction with the media after meeting picketing teachers at the Ministry, Haruna Iddrisu intimated that since his assumption of office, there have been a lot of teacher groups who have visited him with issues related to postings and appointment letters.

To address the issue, a committee has been set up by the Minister to audit such claims and fish out the genuine ones that are eligible for employment after the Ministry of Finance gives financial clearance.

The Acting Director-General of the Ghana Education Service, Professor Ernest K. Davis gave a  breakdown of the affected teachers totalling 3,500 with close to 2,650 of them being given appointments by the previous government and who failed to complete the mandatory process before December 31, 2024 as the deadline for approval of financial clearance.

The committee has been tasked by the Minister to clear such outstanding issues and recommend the next steps to him for appropriate remedy.
