The Pro-Vice-Chancellor in Charge of Academic and Students Affairs at the University of Ghana, Prof. Gordon Awandare has urged students kicking against the new accommodation arrangements to accept their fate or risk losing their beds in the next academic year.

Some concerned students of the Mensah Sarbah Hall and Commonwealth Hall at the University of Ghana in a statement on Thursday, December 15, 2022, pledged to access their rooms next academic year despite the University management’s decision to sack all vandals and male Sarbah hall residents out of the halls from the 2022/2023 academic year.

However, Speaking to Univers News,  Prof. Gordon Awandare said there was no way management will rescind the decision and cautioned the students quickly adjust to the new arrangements or risk losing their rooms next semester.

We’ve started implementing the new arrangements, students are better advised to quickly take up any new hostel that will be  given to them otherwise they will lose it.

He added that both Commonwealth and Mensah Sarbah students affected by the new directive will be assigned to the halls then the halls will give them rooms.

They are going to be assigned to hostels and the hostels will give them rooms.

He also revealed that the investigations on the clash between commonwealth and Mensah Sarbah hall are ongoing and any student angry about the new accommodation arrangement should help them find the culprits in order to speed us the processes.

The investigations are still ongoing and those students who are still angry about this decision should come and tell us who
were responsible for the clashes so that we can punish them for them.

Management of the University, on Wednesday, December 14, 2022,  revoked the accommodation of members of the Commonwealth Hall and male residents of the Mensah Sarbah hall after the latest clashes involving these two halls on campus.

In a statement signed by the Registrar of the University, these students “are to be randomly assigned to available rooms in any of the UGEL and private hostels
