The University of Ghana 75th Anniversary Planning Committee has extended a special invitation to the public to attend the upcoming UG@75 public lecture, which will address the topic “Restructuring the National Economy: The Need for a Paradigm Shift.”
The lecture is scheduled to take place on Thursday, April 6, 2023, at 5:00 p.m. at the Cedi Conference Centre, University of Ghana, Legon. The keynote speaker for the event will be Dr. Yao Graham, Coordinator for Third World Network-Africa.
The lecture will also feature a panel of discussants, including Dr. Philip Abradu-Otoo, Director of Research, Bank of Ghana, and Dr. Priscilla Twumasi Baffour, Senior Lecturer, Department of Economics, University of Ghana. The event will be moderated by Mr. Bernard Avle, General Manager, Citi FM & Citi TV, with Ms. Abena Amoah, Managing Director, Ghana Stock Exchange, serving as the chairperson.
The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ghana, Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, will host the event. The UG@75 public lecture is the third in a series of lectures aimed at stimulating dialogue on issues of national concern.
As part of its 75th-anniversary celebrations, the University of Ghana has organized a series of events and activities to commemorate the milestone and reflect on its past achievements and future aspirations. The UG@75 public lecture series is one of the flagship events of the anniversary celebrations, designed to engage the public in discussions on critical issues affecting the nation and the region.
The first lecture in the series focused on
‘Energy Transitions: Reflections on the State of Ghana’s Oil and Gas Industry.’
Delivered by Mr. Egbert Faibille Jnr., Chief Executive Officer of the Petroleum Commission.
The second lecture was delivered by Manasseh Azure Awuni, Editor-In-Chief, The Fourth Estate on “Our Ghana: Reflections on Integrity and Resilience”

These lectures attracted a wide range of participants, including students, faculty, policymakers, civil society groups, and the media.
The third lecture in the series, “Restructuring the National Economy: The Need for a Paradigm Shift,” is expected to generate a robust debate on the challenges facing the Ghanaian economy and the potential solutions that could lead to sustainable economic growth and development. The lecture promises to provide insights from leading experts in academia, research, and policymaking, and is expected to be attended by a diverse audience from across the country and beyond.
