Rugby Africa president Mr Hebert Mensah says his administration will aim at projecting rugby as an alternative team sports and improve the world rugby elite program.
According to him, rugby Africa has the potential to become one of the best in the world if the right measures are put in place to help nurture talents and enhance facilities for the various teams.
He disclosed that his outfit will come up with elite approaches which will be adopted to imrove the performance of African teams in rugby competitions.
He spoke to the media for the first time after being elected the president of Rugby Africa, he expressed his confidence of making Rugby Africa the gold standard for sports on the African continent.
“Talking about an elite rugby program I actually want the whole of Rugby Africa, all our 36 plus to be elite. The way we train, the way we look after players welfare, nutrition, medicare, and performance. I think we have the best athletes in the world if we look after them properly. We have our elite nations we will push them. Big ups to South Africa, we have Namibia, Kenya, Uganda, Zimbabwe, Madagascar but there is a whole range of countries almost at that level. And I say that elite approach must be what it is that we use as we move forward in taking Rugby Africa back to where it belongs”. Mr. Hebert Mensah told the media.
Rugby Africa was first established in 1986 as the Confederation of African Rugby in order to promote, develop, organize, and govern the game of rugby in Africa. In December 2014, it changed its name to Rugby Africa.
Mr. Mensah, a former president of the Ghana Rugby Union, won by a wide margin at the 15th Rugby Africa General Assembly in Cape Town, South Africa.
