OSP employs 249 full time staff to begin work in September

The Office of the Special Prosecutor has recruited a total of 249 full time staff to begin work effective September 2023.

” The latest development is a significant milestone as the office has operated without permanent staff since its establishment in 2018″ a report authored by the Special Prosecutor (Kissi Agyebeng) and copied to the press stated.

The document titled ” Two Years On , Gains Made” revealed that in addition to the recruitment of the staff with its 10 storey office complex , the OSP has moved away from the initial 3 bedroom building allocated to the institution by government.

Mr Agyebeng listed a litany of  investigations which include; the Electricity Company of Ghana Limited , illegal mining cases, National Sports Authority, Ghana Water Company Limited. Customs Division , Airbus SE, Bank of Ghana , Ghana Police Service and the estate of the late Kwadwo Afriyie.

The entity has also increased its engagement with the public through the deployment of a new website and the plethora of social media handles to be very accessible to the citizenry.

There are also five trials ongoing in 3 Regions of the country with cases worked on by the OSP which include;

Republi  vrs Issah Seidu , Republic vrs Alexander Kwabena Sarfo – Katanka, Republic vrs Seidu Abdul Sumaila  and Andrew Kuundaari , OSP vrs Charles Owusu , as well as OSP vrs Cecilia Abena Dapaah.

The Office has also finished investigations into the case of Charles Adu Boahen , former Deputy Finance Minister, Gaming Commission, and former Presidential Staffer, Charles Bissue and awaiting consequential orders.

The report also outlined the OSP’s efforts in ensuring good governance and fighting corruption. This includes the establishment of a cybersecurity lab funded by the European Union, publication of corruption reports, public education initiatives, compliance checks, and the provision of a toll-free line for filing complaints.

The European Union will also be funding investigation labs and procure vehicles for the smooth running of the administrative work of the Office to be used for operational purposes and senior staff.
