After facing pressure from students, the management of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has announced a significant revision of its 70% fees before exams’ policy by reverting to the previous 50% fee payment policy.

Originally, the KNUST management served a notice to continuing students announcing a settlement of 70% of their academic fees before being allowed to sit for their first semester examination as a measure to ensure students commit to their academic year fees.

However, students petitioned the school’s management to revise the decision, citing inability to pay the fee percentage as a result of some students facing economic issues. According to the students, the university has to consider the various economic situations of students, especially the less privileged.

See below the students’ petition.

In response to the student’s plea, the policy has now been reverted to require only 50% upfront payment. The development was also announced in a statement dated 4th April, 2024.

“Further to ours of 25th March 2024 on above, I write, at the instances of the Vice-Chancellor to respectfully inform you as follows:
1. All students (both undergraduate and post graduate) are required to pay at least 50% of their fees before the commencement of the first semester examination, instead of 70% as previously indicated.
2. This supersedes our previous communication of even reference.”

Here is the statement from the KNUST management.
