The founder and leader of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP), Madam Akua Donkor, has voiced her frustration with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) over what she perceives as excessive criticism of the Electoral Commission.
Speaking at the Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, Akua Donkor warned that the NDC’s actions could incite chaos and damage the reputation of the EC.
According to her, the NDC’s persistent complaints have only led to their own embarrassment. She expressed her belief that the EC Chairperson was divinely appointed and urged the NDC to stop troubling her.
“Since she became the EC Chairperson, the NDC has been giving her a hard time. They took her to court, but in the end, they were embarrassed. Why do you keep troubling her like that? Don’t you realize that God put her in this position? God placed her here, and no matter what you do, it’s in vain.”
She also commended the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for cooperating with the EC, contrasting their approach with the NDC’s persistent criticisms.
According to Akua Donkor, the NDC’s complaints, particularly about deceased persons in the voters’ register, are unfounded. She urged them to stop spreading falsehoods and encouraged them to follow the example set by the NPP.
“You claim there are deceased people in the voters’ register, but that’s not true. Why spread falsehoods like that? And why is it that only your party seems to have a problem with this? Why can’t you be more like the NPP? I commend the NPP for their approach.”
Akua Donkor also defended the EC Chairperson, describing her as “God-sent,” and prayed for her to remain strong in the face of these challenges. She praised the Chairperson for her resilience.
“God brought her here, and all you say are lies. I pray that God strengthens her so she stands firm. She is a virtuous woman, and I commend her.”
