Africa Education Watch and the Institute for Education studies (IFEST-Ghana) have called for the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) to halt its plans to award foreign masters scholarships.
In a communique released by the two organizations, they cited legal breaches, misallocation of funds with the public scholarship system and value for money as reasons for which the scheme should come to an end.
These organizations argue that the funds should instead support local tertiary education students, considering the national economic difficulties. They highlighted the urgent need for transparency and reform in the public scholarship system.
The two organizations are therefore petitioning the education minister to halt what they call as ‘wasteful activities’. The demand on their part is to make reforms that would give value for the funds involved in the scheme considering that most of the courses that are awarded scholarship abroad are offered in Ghana and have less cost among others.
