The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has issued a public warning regarding the presence of an unregistered bottled mineral water, SLIMFIT, circulating in the Ghanaian market.
According to a press statement released by the FDA on 19th January, 2024, the registered brand approved by the authority was clarified to be SLEMFIT, produced by the Twellium Industrial Company Limited.
“The brand registered by the FDA is SLEMFIT (mineral water and purified water) produced by the Twellium Industrial Company Limited.”
The statement was also a response to public concerns over the discernment of two similar water brands, SLIMFIT and SLEMFIT, which were produced by two completely different companies.
According to the FDA, surveillance teams have been deployed to monitor markets and remove any instances of the unauthorized SLIMFIT mineral water all in efforts to identify and take necessary regulatory actions against the producers and distributors involved.
“The FDA wishes to assure the public that its surveillance teams are monitoring the markets to remove the unregistered SLIMFIT mineral water from trade and also to find the producers and distributors.”
In light of this development, the FDA strongly advised the public against patronizing unregistered products like SLIMFIT. Consumers were urged to exercise vigilance when purchasing packaged goods and report any suspicious products to the FDA for appropriate regulatory measures.
“The FDA takes this opportunity to advise the public not to patronise unregistered products as their safety and quality cannot be ascertained. Therefore, this publication is urging all consumers to be vigilant when buying packaged products and report any suspicious products to the FDA
for the necessary regulatory action to be taken.”
