I never had the opportunity to meet Prof. Kwesi Botchwey in person. However, the nuggets of wisdom displayed by him are worth emulating.
I reminisce about reading a book titled, “WORKING WITH RAWLINGS”, by Prof. Kwamena Ahwoi.
He reiterates how Prof.Kwesi Botchwey has immensely contributed to the democracy of this country since he was a strong loyalist of Chairman J.J Rawlings.
Prof. Kwesi Botchwey was appointed by Chairman Rawlings to assist in stabilizing Ghana’s collapsed economy. Holding an LL.M from Yale Law School and practicing development economics at The Flecther School of Law and Diplomacy of Tuffts University: he was greatly assisted by his deputy Dr.Kwesi Amissah-Arthur (of blessed memory)
Prof. Kwesi Botchwey was an advisor to the World Bank on the 1997 World Development Report and advisor to the UNDP’s UN Special Initiative on Africa. He was member and chairman of IMF’s Group of independence Experts who conducted the first ever evaluation of the Enhanced Structural Adjustment facility. Prof was the advisor to the European Centre for Development Policy Management (ECDPM).
Prof. Kwesi Botchwey is the longest serving Minister for Finance and Economic Planning (1982 – 1995) in the history of Ghana. He died at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital on the 19th November, at the age of 78. A life well lived ! A legacy left! An empire built!
