Crystal Palace and Ghanaian forward Jordan Ayew has pleaded for patience from Black Stars fans following this morning’s disappointing 4-0 defeat to the United States Men’s National Team (USMNT) at the Geodis Park In Nashville.
The Black Stars of Ghana experienced yet another setback just three days after their lacklustre display against Mexico.
Ghana were hoping to make amends for their underwhelming performance against Mexico but found themselves trailing in the 11th minute as Boroussia Dortmund forward Giovanni Reyna’s powerful close range effort put the host in the lead.
Things went a bit sour for the black stars in the 19th minute when Auxerre left back Gideon Mensah tripped Timothy Weah in the 18-yard box, resulting in a penalty which was expertly dispatched by USA captain Christian Pulisic to extend the advantage of the USMNT on the night to 2-0 and take the skippers international tally to 28 goals.
Folarin Balogun made a thrid score 3 minutes after Christian Pulisic’s strike. Giovanni Reynna completed his brace 6 minutes before the break, following an indirect free kick.
The Black Stars struggled to find a way past a resolute USA defence. Though West Ham United forward, Mohammed Kudus managed to carve an opening for himself with his stinging left foot drive on the cusp of half time, his effort was repelled by USA’s Matt Turner.
The resumption of the second half saw both teams end the game with a hodgepodge line up, as Ghana held off the USA to avoid the infliction of more damages to the 4-0 scoreline.
Coach of the side, Chris Hughton was yet to be defeated as Black Stars manager heading into October’s internationals but has since then suffered 2 defeats in a span of 3 days by a combined scoreline of 6-0.
The injury crisis of the team has been a major hindrance as Celta Vigo’s Joseph Aidoo became the latest casualty to join a long list of absentees on the sidelines for the Black Stars. This is coupled with the inexperience on the path of some debutants which continues to prove costly for Ghana.
Bkack Stars Deputy Captain, Jordan Ayew attested to these concerns and further opined that time would be a telling factor in measuring and determining the progress and success the team would be able to attain.
“I just feel like we just need a bit of more time because it’s a new group, a lot of new players and most of the players are really inexperienced so it’s not easy but we are working on it because we know we don’t have time; this type of game is a reality check, we know our level and we know we have to keep working hard to get this cohesion together and to learn how to play together and all those things so it will come with time.”
The Black Stars take to the field next in the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifier against Madagascar on November 13 before facing Comoros 8 days later.
