The 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) is set to officially end today, Friday, September 20, 2024, with the final(Chemistry) paper scheduled to conclude at approximately 5 p.m. This will mark the successful completion of the nationwide exams, which began on August 5, 2024, with the Visual Arts practicals.

A total of 460,611 candidates, comprising 212,954 males and 247,657 females, from 1,003 recognized senior high schools across the country participated in this year’s WASSCE. This reflects an increase of 13,407 candidates, representing a 2.66% rise from the 447,204 candidates who sat for the 2023 exams.

The exam period, which spanned over a month, saw candidates tackling various subjects required for their secondary school certification. These include four core subjects — English Language, Mathematics, Integrated Science, and Social Studies alongside 55 elective subjects based on the candidates’ study programs.

With today’s Chemistry paper drawing the curtains on this year’s examination, the 2024 WASSCE has been commended for its smooth conduct and the absence of any paper cancellations, a notable achievement in recent years.

As the exams come to a close, stakeholders in the education sector, including students, teachers, and parents, are hopeful that results will reflect the efforts put in by candidates, ensuring a successful transition for those aiming to further their studies or enter the job market.
