The University of Ghana secured a narrow 1-0 victory over the University of Professional Studies in the opening match of the University of Ghana Corporate Football League.

Nathaniel from Team UG netted the only goal of the match with a brilliant finish that left the goalkeeper puzzled in the second half at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium.

Despite creating three significant chances, the hosts were unable to convert them, while the visitors only had one opportunity at the University of Ghana Stadium. A loss in the curtain raiser would have been a disappointing start to the University of Ghana Corporate Football League for the hosts.

The league is expected to bring together professionals from diverse sectors, and aims to foster teamwork, networking and corporate engagement through football.

Eighteen teams, including Ghana Armed Forces Sports Club, Ghana National Petroleum Corporation, Stanbic Bank, and the Ghana Football Association, have been grouped into two leagues.

As corporate teams compete for dominance, the UG Corporate Football League is poised to be a key event on the sporting calendar. Will Union Ghana retain their title, or will a new champion rise?
