The Women’s Commission of the University of Ghana Student Representative Council (UGSRC) has distributed sanitary pads and panty liners to female students across various halls and hostels on campus.
The two-day distribution exercise began on Friday, June 27, 2025, and ended on Saturday, June 28, 2025. The initiative aimed to support female students, especially those facing financial challenges in accessing sanitary products.
Speaking exclusively to Univers News, Deputy Women’s Commissioner Ms. Perpetual Mintah explained the motivation behind the initiative.
She emphasised that the project was a way of giving back and supporting the well-being of fellow female students.
“We know that menstruation is something that cannot be avoided, and for years now, buying pads has been a challenge for many ladies. As the Women’s Commission, we thought it wise to write to Reflo and get pads to give out for free. When we see females happy, we are also happy. There’s a lot of investment in it, and we’re proud of doing it,” she said.
Students who benefited from the distribution shared their appreciation for the initiative.
“This is a new initiative that has never happened on campus. I urge all women to support them so they can continue their good work,” one student said.
“I appreciate them for sharing this because I wasn’t expecting it,” another added.
Women’s Commissioner Antoinette Opoku assured students that more initiatives are in the pipeline, subject to the easing of restrictions on social gatherings.
“We have more to deliver, so they should expect more from us. If the ban on social gatherings is lifted, we can roll out the other initiatives we have prepared,” she said.
