The Pro Vice-Chancellor for Research, Innovation, and Development (RID) at the University of Ghana, Prof. Felix Ankomah Asante, has commended the University of Ghana School of Law (UGSoL) for its outstanding contributions to the University and its continued excellence in legal education.
The School has demonstrated its strength over the years, including placing 11th out of 88 schools at the 2024 International Bar Association (IBA)–ICC Moot Court Competition, winning back-to-back national titles at the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition in 2025 and 2026, and emerging champions of the Supreme Court @150 Moot Court Competition in 2026, among other accomplishments.
Speaking on the first day of the University’s July 2026 Congregation on July 24, Prof. Asante highlighted the School’s impressive performance in the latest global academic rankings.
“The University of Ghana School of Law continues to distinguish itself as a centre of excellence in legal education. The 2026 Times Higher Education World University Rankings by Subject ranked the School of Law Number 1 in Ghana and West Africa, sixth in Africa, and placed it in the prestigious 201–300 global band.”
Beyond its academic rankings, Prof. Asante also praised the School’s dominance in practical legal training and international moot court competitions.
“The School has also retained its title as national champions of the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition for the second consecutive year, earning the honour of representing Ghana at the international championship in the United States of America.”
Concluding his address, Prof. Asante congratulated the faculty, staff, students, and alumni on the School’s achievements while encouraging them to continue striving for greater success.
“I congratulate our faculty, staff, students, and alumni on these achievements and urge all of us to continue working hard as we strive to do even better.”
