The University of Ghana Students’ Representative Council (UGSRC) Electoral Commission has been petitioned to disqualify SRC Presidential aspirant, Emmanuel Owusu Amponsah, ‘Manuel Life’, over claims of financial misappropriation during his tenure as Secretary of the UG Sociology Students’ Association (SOSA).
The petition, filed by Deputy Organising Secretary of the Sociology Students’ Association (SOSA), Leslie David Semokor Kwasi accuses Manuel Life of “misappropriating GHS 19,760.00 out of GHS 29,950.00 collected during the first semester of the 2023/24 academic year.”
The petitioner further stated that the funds were transferred into Manuel Life’s personal account, alleging embezzlement.
“This amount was transferred into Emmanuel Owusu Amponsah’s personal account, rather than the official SOSA account, raising serious concerns about financial malfeasance.”
The petition highlights that this action violates Article 30(2)(a) of the UGSRC Constitution, which disqualifies candidates from holding office if they are found guilty of misappropriating funds.

The UGSRC Electoral Commission in a statement said it has acknowledged receipt of the petition and has formerly opened an investigation.
“Our primary goal is to uphold the integrity and ethical standards of our student governance. To this end, we have requested that the investigation report be made available to us by the close of business tomorrow.”
