Accra Hearts of Oak Communications Director, Opare Addo, is defending the quality of the University of Ghana Stadium pitch in response to the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Club Licensing Committee’s decision to reject it for Ghana Premier League matches.
Opare Addo contends that several approved pitches do not even meet the required standards and feels that the decision against them, is both inconsistent and unjust.
“If the Legon pitch isn’t good enough, how many pitches in Ghana have the features the UG Stadium offers?,” Communications Director of Hearts Opare Addo told Happy FM.
“Yet, we play matches across the country on fields with even fewer amenities.
“I don’t want to single out any venue out of respect, but if Legon doesn’t meet the standards, then there are GPL venues that don’t even meet half of what Legon has. Let’s embrace fairness.” he concluded.
Meanwhile, The Ghana Football Association Club Licensing Committee has rejected five stadiums following its latest inspection, raising serious concerns about safety and security ahead of the Ghana Premier League’s resumption on March 7.
The affected stadiums are Baba Yara Stadium (Asante Kotoko), Berekum Chelsea’s Golden City Park, Basake Holy Stars’ AAK Ampanian Stadium in Nzema, and Young Apostles’ Wenchi Sports Stadium as unfit for league matches.
The University of Ghana Stadium, which has been a temporary home for Hearts of Oak, Legon Cities, and Accra Lions, has also been rejected on similar grounds, with sources indicating additional areas requiring urgent fixes before reconsideration.
