#UGDecides: Martin Boakye defeats Samuel Ackom in SRC Run-off elections

Presidential and Vice Presidential candidates in the 2022 Student’s Representatives Council Election, Martin Boakye Gyasi & Abraham Lincoln Ohene have been given the nod to lead the student front of the University of Ghana.
Students of the University of Ghana went to the polls on Tuesday, November 8 to decide who become the next SRC President, Vice President, and General Secretary for the 2022-2023 academic year.
The elections were conducted online with support from the University of Ghana Computing System for all undergraduate students.
Students of the University earlier on November, 1 went to the polls to elect a new crop of executives to man the affairs of the University of Ghana Students Representative Council. However, after the closing of polls, none of the five Presidential candidates could get the required 50%+1 of the total valid vote cast. Curtis Owusu Akomeh & Linda Ackah Mensah who were number 1 on the ballot paper gathered a total valid vote of 3,426 out of a total valid vote cast of 15,030 representing 22. 74%. Martin Boakye Gyasi & Abraham Lincoln Ohene also obtained 5,455 votes representing 36.20%. Samuel Ackom & Ramzy Ahmed also obtained a total valid vote of 3,876 representing 25.75%. Graham Oduro Dery & Benedict Paakwesi Bortsie pulled a total valid vote of 742 which represents 7.92%.
Noah Wumborbi & Kojo Ambrose had a total valid vote of 1,565 which represents 10.39%.

This led to a run-off between the two leading candidates that is Martin Boakye Gyasi & Abraham Lincoln Ohene and Samuel Ackom & Ramzy Ahmed Fusieni.

After the close of polls, Martin Boakye Gyasi defeat Samuel Ackom to win as the SRC President with a total valid vote of 6,652 representing 56.7% as against his contender Samuel Ackom with 4,963 representing 42.3% out of a total valid vote of 11,722 with 107 (0.9%) of the abstained vote.

Meanwhile, Emmmanuella Boakye Yiadom and Micheal Kuti have also been elected as the General Secretary and Treasure of the University of Ghana Student Representative Council for the 2022-2023 academic year.
