Scores of newly posted teachers drawn from across the country have been picketing at the Ghana Education Service headquarters in Accra for 10 months over unpaid salaries.
This development comes after the teachers from the 2022 cohort of College Education graduates demanded an immediate resolution to lingering issues affecting their recruitment, such as delayed staff identification numbers and undue delays in salary payments.
The picketing teachers who claim to have submitted a letter to the appropriate quarters for speedy resolution revealed that they were holed up at the GES premises for over 2 hours without any official interactions from the staff of GES.
In the course of the sit-down protest at the GES offices, the teachers had a brief altercation with law enforcement agents detailed to manage the situation at hand, which led to a forceful removal of the protestors from the premises.
The leadership of the group added that they are not perturbed by the actions of the law enforcement officials and have served their intentions of presenting an official petition to the Ministry of Finance on Tuesday, June 24, before proceeding to Parliament later in the day.
“We are not worried by the actions of security officials detailed to scupper our actions here today, our next line of action is to present an official petition to the Ministry of Finance on June 24, before proceeding to engage Parliament on the pertinent issues affecting our welfare.”
The government must be assured that we are ready to demand that our outstanding salaries and delays in giving us our permanent staff identification numbers before we will call off our actions in full, the leader was reported as saying to the pressmen.
