United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) has launched a global platform called U-Report to encourage change in the lives of young individuals through reporting on issues of concern in the society.
The platform was launched on the 19th of July at the University of Ghana’s Student Representative Council (SRC) Day with the Vice-Chancellor, which took place at the Institute of Statistical Research (ISSER) Conference Centre in the University of Ghana. The event was primarily orgnaized
U-Report is a social messaging and data-collection tool developed by UNICEF to improve youth advocacy, inform government leaders, and foster positive change in the life of young people. It sends SMS polls and alerts to participants to accumulate issues that are subsequently published on their websites.
Speaking with UniversNews at the launch, Digital Communications Officer of U-Report, Benjamin Dadson encouraged students to join the platform in order to amplify their c.
He elaborated on the purpose of the U-Report platform as an avenue for the youth to voice out matters of concern that need immediate attention for solutions.
“We realized that young voices matter. The U-Report is a digital SMS-based tool that will engage people to voice out key issues that affect them. It amplifies these issues through UNICEF channels. The tool engages people on issues that their feedback is taking to provide solutions.”
U-Report is currently running four opinion polls, Menstrual Hygiene Management, World Water Day, Education (Edu 23), and United Nations COPS 28 Asa and climate action which the youths are currently engaging with.
