The University of Ghana is set to introduce new University of Ghana Required Courses (UGRCs) in Digital Literacy and Applied Artificial Intelligence

The University of Ghana is set to introduce new University of Ghana Required Courses (UGRCs) in Digital Literacy and Applied Artificial Intelligence as part of a broader review of its undergraduate curriculum.

Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ghana, Professor Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, announced this during the SRC Day with the Vice-Chancellor, held at the Cedi Conference Hall on August 12, 2026, as part of activities marking the 2026 SRC Week celebration.

Professor Amfo stated that the review of the UGRCs is currently at the approval stage, with the proposed changes expected to be presented to the University’s Academic Board before the next academic year.

“We have actually gone through the process to review our UGRCs. And we are currently going through our approval processes. So at our next Academic Board, this is going to be presented and hopefully, come next academic year, we will have a new set of UGRCs.”

She further stated that the review is expected to result in a new set of required courses, with some existing courses maintained and others reorganised to reflect changing educational needs.

“Some of the old courses will be there. Some will be reorganised in different forms. And most importantly, we’re going to introduce a UGRC in digital literacy and applied AI.”

The introduction of the new UGRCs is expected to strengthen students’ digital competencies and better prepare them for an increasingly technology-driven world of work.

The move forms part of the University’s broader efforts to provide a more transformative and future-oriented student experience.
