The University of Ghana is set to host its annual Open Day to give prospective students and the general public a closer look at what the university has to offer.

Speaking on the Campus Exclusive show on Radio Univers on Monday, 13th October 2025, Director of Academic Affairs at the University of Ghana Lydia Nyarko-Danquah, explained that the initiative aims to give people the opportunity to know the university better before joining.

“As part of the University’s bid to offer a transformative experience to our prospective students year after year, we have been doing outreach and the point of the outreach is to make people aware of what we have to offer and to convince them that it is worthwhile coming to join the UG family.”

She noted that this year’s Open Day will be held in two sessions — from the 22nd to the 23rd of October at the UG Stadium, and an online webinar on the 24th.

“It’s going to be twofold. We’re going to have a physical fair and an online webinar for those who cannot come to Accra. The physical fair is two days, 22nd and 23rd October from morning to around 4 p.m.It’s going to be held at the UG Stadium because it’s accessible. So people come to the fair at the stadium and over there we expose them to what they need to know about the university.”

Also speaking on the show, Lecturer at the Marketing Department at the University of Ghana Business School, Professor Sheena Lovia Boateng, mentioned that the purpose of the programme is to provide prospective students with the right information to be able to choose the right programme for the right career choice.

“The admissions portal is still open and will still be open for a period after the results are released. So we want them to all take advantage and come and learn about the programmes they have chosen — that’s for those who have already applied. For those yet to apply, this is an opportunity to get more information so they can make up their minds and know exactly which programme will be the best.”

She added that the Open Day will also help prevent misinformation and guide students to make informed career decisions.

“Because the University of Ghana has so many programmes to offer, we don’t want them to be misinformed. We want all of them to come and ask all the questions that they have in order to make the best choice.”
