The Senior Staff Association of Universities of Ghana (SSA-UoG) has declared an indefinite strike across all public university campuses in the country.

The staff associations embarked on their strike from the 17th January, 2024, aligning with an earlier statement threatening to see a strike by the given date, should their concerns be left unaddressed.

In a statement also dated 17th January, 2024, the staff association explained that the strike was as a result of government’s disregard over their welfare and concerns despite multiple meetings with the government’s representatives.

Citing the release of Tier-2 Pension contributions as a major issue of concern presented by the staff association, disappointment was expressed on their side, as they insinuated that all form of attempts at having their issues addressed were futile.

References were made on government’s failure to make timely payments of their pension contributions from 2010 to 2016, which was another factor for the strike’s occurrence.

In light of all these issues, the staff associations have called on government in the statement to effectively address their concerns, which are mainly based on the payment of the payment of the Tier-2 Pensions contributions.

The staff associations however assured the general public of their commitment to their work whilst citing government’s lack of response as a reason for the indefinite pause.

Below is the statement from SSA-UoG.
