Students at the University of Ghana have expressed their overwhelming support for the introduction of the Vodafone tertiary bundle by the Students Representative Council (SRC). This bundle comes as a much-needed relief to many students who have long been struggling with poor Wifi connectivity on campus.
In response to the news, many students have hailed the introduction of the bundle as a “game-changer” and a “lifesaver”, while others hope that it will not affect their academic fees.
One student, Jessica Ankomah, stated, “It’s not a bad idea because it’s not always that we have the Wi-Fi connection working”
Another student, Kwame, added, “This is exactly what we needed. With the Vodafone tertiary bundle, we can now communicate easily and at a much lower cost. I hope this serves as a temporary measure until WiFi connectivity is extended across campus.”
Some other students also hoped the bundle will not affect their academic fees considering the increases over the last year.
“It is not a bad idea but looking at how some students were complaining about the increment of fees when the semester began, it will create another chaos but it’s generally not a bad idea.”Andrea, a Level 2oo student said.
James a non-resident also hoped the bundle will benefit them and also be less expensive.
“ I think it will be a good idea but I don’t want the case where our academic fees will be increased drastically. I want it to be like a huge package but we will pay less for it. But will it work only when I’m on campus or off campus as well? because I’m a non-resident hence I’ll feel cheated when it only works on campus and not off campus. But then it’s a good proposal because it won’t come to the detriment of students in the long run.”
A level 300 Psychology student, Jane, also said she expects the poor internet connectivity on some parts of campus will be fixed before the rollout of the new bundle.
“Some hostels on campus have poor internet connection so if they can, first of all, get the general internet connection fixed, they can go ahead to introduce this initiative.”
The Vodafone tertiary bundle is a package that gives 150 minutes to all networks and IDD to selected countries, 5GB of data, and 100 SMS to all networks, allowing students to make calls for free as well.
Most universities particularly Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology has been a beneficiary since the inception of this initiative.
The General Assembly of the University of Ghana is making efforts to purchase this bundle to remedy network connectivity issues on campus while waiting for the extension of WIFI across the university’s campus.
