Some University of Ghana (UG) students have mixed reactions to the possible introduction of a ‘Date Rush’ Campus Edition, following a recent video posted by TV3 calling on tertiary institutions to register for a special edition of the popular dating show.

In the video, TV3 explained that the initiative seeks to provide students with a platform to find love while navigating the pressures of academic life. This announcement has sparked diverse opinions among UG students, many of whom voiced their views to Univers Entertainment.

While some students believe the show would bring much-needed excitement and drama to campus life, others are concerned about its timing and potential impact on academic focus.

“I feel like it will be so fun because I really like drama. There’s going to be so much drama on campus,” one level 100 male student enthusiastically shared.

Others highlighted the potential influence such a program could have on student behaviour and public image:

“I think the girls will maintain their composure because if you’re on ‘Date Rush’, you’ll know how to behave properly—people are watching you, even when you think they’re not.”

However, not everyone was in favour of the idea. Some expressed concerns about academic distractions:

“Date Rush is going to distract students, in my opinion. We’re already overwhelmed with academics, and this would just add to it. On the flip side though, some people might actually find love.” One level 100 female student said.

“People just want the publicity—to be famous, have fun, or appear on national TV,” another student added.

Others questioned the authenticity of the show’s intentions, wondering if true love can be found in such settings:

“I don’t know if people are genuinely looking for love on campus. Maybe they are—who knows?” a female level 100 student shared.

Despite the differing views, some students welcomed the idea as a source of relief from the academic grind:

“I think they should go ahead with it. It will serve as a great source of entertainment for us. It’s been a while since we had something fun on campus.”

“I feel like they shouldn’t do it right now though—we’re about to write exams,” a male student cautioned.

Others feared the emotional implications and social drama that could arise from the show:

“Doing this could bring a lot of drama. Imagine your boyfriend or ex appearing on the show—it would stir things up.”

“You don’t really get to know the person well. It could lead to emotional stress and unnecessary issues.”

As discussions continue online and on campus, whether UG will participate in the ‘Date Rush’ Campus Edition remains to be seen. One thing is clear, though—the student body is divided, and the conversation is far from over.
