GIJ elects new SRC executives after Court injunction

The Ghana Institute of Journalism has successfully elected new executives for their student representative council to lead the students front for the next academic year after an  judicial board ordered an injunction against the election.

The electoral commission of GIJ-SRC on October 17, 2022 released provisional results for the election which saw Bismark Owusu – Ansah emerging as the president-elect, Caleb Asante Annor as the General Secretary-elect, Obed King Gaglo as financial secretary-elect while Ayinawu Alhassan Adam emerged as Women’s commissioner and Osman Abubakari Sadiq won the External Affairs portfolio.

The GIJ- SRC  election which began on Thursday October 13, 2022 but came to a halt after the Judicial Board ordered an Ex Parte injuction on the process.

The ruling also sought to clarify the  eligibility of aspirants to contest executive positions of the students’ representative council which had been contended by a number of candidates who were disqualified.

The election resumed on Monday, October 17th, 2022 after the Judical board ruled in favour of the electoral commission and urged the future aspirants to ” make it a point  to understand the processes and the constitutional requirements deemed of them in attempt to file for positions”.

This is the second online election and according to the electoral commissioner , this election recorded the highest voter turnout.
