President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwah Akuffo-Addo has praised the alumni community of the University of Ghana for their significant act of giving back to their Alma Mater.
He made these remarks during the University of Ghana Alumni Homecoming at the Alumni Centre, as part of the year-long 75th-anniversary celebrations, organized on 2nd April, 2023. The event kicked off with a torch-light procession led by the University of Ghana Music Department. The Chief of Staff of Ghana, Akosua Frema Osei Opare, the Registrar of the University of Ghana, Emelia Agyei Mensah, Members of the Alumni Council, and Members of the UGis75 planning Committee were all in attendance.
The President expressed hope in the alumni on their assistance with ey projects that the university needs as support for its development.
“It’s, therefore, appropriate that today we should be ongoing this monument to distinguish alumni of this university, the entire project and the contribution that the alumni association is making to the development of the university are so worthwhile. And we heard from the Chancellor the very many projects that she’s seeking assistance for. And I know that the alumni association is going to take the lead in making sure that the development of [UG, which is so central, and the development of our country continues at pace.”
The President also expressed optimism in the University’s vision to continue to breed leaders for the country.
“I know that the names that are there, there are many, many more names that are coming in the future to be added because this is going to be the cradle and it will continue to be the cradle of Ghana’s development. That’s what we’re looking for. That we will have a university that will be at the very heart of developing the intellectual moral substance of our country. And this is the vision that the man who almost single-handed you is responsible for; the creation of this University by J.B Danquah. That was his vision, and that is the vision that we continue to live by.”
