UG: Christopher Asuliwonno, Adamu Mumuno wins Distance Education SRC Presidential, Veep race

Christopher Asuliwonno and Adamu G. Mumuni have won the 2022 University of Ghana Distance Education Students Representative Council elections.

The elections, which were held on Saturday, November 19, 2022, saw Christopher Asuliwonno and Adamu G. Mumuni emerge victorious with 1,145 votes representing 61%, against their opponents Bright-Kelvin Afeku and Christian Addo Okyere, who garnered 732 votes representing 39%.

Speaking to UniversNews, Christopher Asuliwonno expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the student populace for throwing their weight behind him.

First of let me use this opportunity to congratulate all the aspirants, they all did well and to congratulate myself and all the students body and not just those who voted for me because as it stands now it is no longer about who voted for me, it is now about the progress of thee and how we can implement our policies and make sure that whatever we intented to let the students benefits would actually get the benefits

The second deputy electoral commissioner, Ebenezer Nana Qwedjie Addo, who also spoke to UniversNews indicated that the commission was able to resolve all challenges relating to students not receiving their voting links on time.

Basically for today, the only complain that came on were some people who said they didn’t receive their links, where later they were all sorted as they bring out their students ID numbers the link were resent to them and they were about to vote so we didn’t really get any problem like that. We anticipate that just like the turnout was today, it wasn’t to encouraging but we pray tomorrow’s own will be better, he said.

Students of the University of Ghana, Distance Education, went to the polls on Saturday, November 19, 2022, to elect their new crop of leaders to manage the affairs of the student body for the next academic year

The mode for this election was strictly online, with assistance from the University of Ghana Computing Systems.

The election began at exactly 8:30 am and ended at 5:05 pm.

Out of the 11,845 expected voters to vote, 1,877 was the total number of votes accumulated at the end of the election.

It is expected that the elections for the other portfolios, such as the general secretary, treasurer, and women commissioner, will be held on Sunday, November 20, 2022.

The first Distance Education SRC elections were canceled after some candidates and students complained of irregularities and not receiving their codes to vote.
