UG: 65th SRC executives to be sworn-in today

The University of Ghana Students’ Representative Council has announced that the swearing-in of the 65th executives will take place today, Wednesday, November 30, 2022, at the Old Council Chamber, on the university’s campus.

The ceremony is expected to begin at 2:30 pm.

A few weeks ago,  students of the University of Ghana went to the polls and elected Martin Boakye Gyasi as their SRC President, Abraham Lincoln Ohene as their Vice President, Emmanuella Boakye Yiadom as the SRC General Secretary, and Michael Kuti as the SRC Treasurer.

A statement signed by the UGSRC Chief Justice, Kwabena Amankwah Addae-Marfo, on November 29, 2022, informed the student populace that the preparations for the ceremony had been finalized.

“All members of the University community are hereby informed that preparations towards the swearing in ceremony of the newly elected SRC executives have been finalised”, the statement read.

Speaking to UniversNews, Kwabena Amankwah Addae-Marfo disclosed that a petition he received yesterday necessitated the change of dates for the swearing-in, which was earlier expected to be held on December 10.

“Ordinarily, the swearing-in should have been done by last week, that is the constitutionally mandated time of 14 days, after that the new executives have the right to petition…so I received that petition yesterday and I spoke to management and got the feedback today that it should be rescheduled for tomorrow [today],” he stated.

He further assured students of the preparedness of the Office of the Chief Justice to see to a successful swearing-in ceremony.

“I received the go-ahead of from the Dean herself and I am positive that everything is underway for the swearing-in tomorrow [today]’, he noted.

Members of the university community have also been invited to witness the ceremony later today.
