Former President John Dramani Mahama will be sworn in today, January 7, 2025, for his second term as President of Ghana.

Mahama, the opposition leader, secured victory in December 7, 2024, elections with a decisive win, reclaiming leadership from the incumbent, Nana Akufo-Addo, who steps down after completing his two-term limit.

The Electoral Commission (EC) had earlier announced on Monday, December 9, that John Dramani Mahama won the election with 6,328,397 votes, representing 56.55% of the valid ballots. He defeated his main opponent, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), who received 4,657,304 votes, accounting for 41.61%.

Mahama’s victory is a significant milestone for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), which also secured a parliamentary majority. The NDC has confirmed over 160 seats, including several key constituencies that were previously strongholds of the ruling NPP.
