Today, February 8, marks exactly seven years since Ghana lost one of its most vibrant and promising musical talents—Priscilla Opoku-Kwarteng, widely known as Ebony Reigns. Her untimely passing in 2018 sent shockwaves through the music industry and beyond, but her influence and legacy remain undeniable.

Ebony was a trailblazing force in Ghanaian music, redefining the industry with her bold lyrics, unique style, and magnetic stage presence. Rising to fame with hit songs like Kupe, Sponsor, Date Ur Fada, and Hustle, she quickly became a household name. Her debut album, Bonyfied, cemented her status as one of the most influential young artists of her time, earning her widespread recognition and accolades.

Tragically, on the night of February 8, 2018, Ebony lost her life in a fatal car accident on the Sunyani-Kumasi highway while returning to Accra after visiting her mother. She was only 20 years old. Her passing was a devastating blow to the Ghanaian music industry, leaving a void that is still deeply felt.

Despite her untimely death, Ebony continued to make history. In 2018, she became the first female artist to win the prestigious VGMA Artiste of the Year award posthumously. This achievement was a testament to her immense talent, impact, and the love she received from fans and industry players alike. Her influence extended beyond her music, as she inspired conversations about female representation and freedom of expression in the entertainment industry.
