The family of the late Professor Janet Kwami, has presented a drone and computers to the Department of Communication Studies as a tribute to the lasting impact she had on the department’s success.

Prof. Kwami, an alumna of the department, was a regular presence, actively participating in various activities in the department. She frequently served as a guest lecturer and keynote speaker at events.

In a brief meeting, the donation was graciously accepted by the Head of Department, Prof. Abena Yeboah–Banin, who expressed sincere gratitude to the family for their thoughtful gesture.

Prof. Yeboah–Banin announced that an award recognizing the best graduating M.A. student in Communication Studies had been instituted in her honour.

She also emphasized the department’s commitment to honoring the late Professor Kwami’s legacy.

“On behalf of the Department of Communication Studies, I receive this donation with deep appreciation. We are truly grateful for your thoughtfulness and commitment to institutionalizing Janet’s connection with the department. We greatly value your support and are ready to journey with you as far as necessary, ensuring that her memory lives on, not only in our hearts but also in the hearts of future students and practitioners of Communication Studies.” Prof. Yeboah–Banin stated

The leader of the family delegation of the late Prof. Janet Kwami, Dr. Archibold Buah-Kwofie recounted the deep connection the late Prof. Kwami had with the Department, evident through her numerous collaborations.

“This is the second time we are coming here and it is all in love of our beloved Janet. The School of Communication was dear to her heart and she would have done anything to make sure that the school was in good stead, she would have done it.” Dr. Buah-Kwofie stated.

Dr. Buah-Kwofie added that the family is excited about the “Janet Dzibordi Kwami Award” and would want to travel from the US to come for the next graduation.

“Just in addition, the family wanted to come in the summer and I know the university calendar has changed over the years since COVID.  I do not know whether graduations have been done in May, June or July but those were the dates that they were looking to come because in summer, they usually have a longer break and it will afford them an opportunity to be out of the States for a while.” Dr. Buah-Kwofie stated.

Before her untimely passing, Prof. Janet Kwami had collaborated with the department on an academic project, serving as the lead editor. This work has since been published, further cementing her legacy in the academic world.
