Some Kantamanto traders have been counting their losses after a fire destroyed the market early Tuesday morning.
A number of stores and property worth thousands of cedis were damaged by the fire.
The cause has not yet been determined.
More than 200 stores belonging to the affected traders who were specialized in second clothing—were destroyed along the rail way in the central business district.
Speaking to Univers News, one of the traders said she’s still in shock as to how all of these happened
I am still surprised , I sell bed sheets I was at home around 5am and I was called that things are burning at the market, I got here and everything is gone. 2 piles of my bedsheets are all gone and I don’t even know what to do.
Another said the outbreak will make life difficult for her since she has lost her means of survival.
I don’t have insurance nothing, this is a very big blow, I dont know what to do, all I do is sewing and as the Christmas is approaching. I dont know what I am going to do to take care of my children. I sew and that is all I do, now I have lost my shop. What do I do now?
Maame Mansa, one of the traders also said they hope to receive relief items from the government soon
So, we were asked to go to the police station and write our names , I am sure by three days time we’d probably meet for relief items.
