Hohoe United withdraw from the 2025/2026 Ghana Premier League

Hohoe United FC have officially confirmed their decision to withdraw from the Ghana Premier League.
The club announced the decision on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, following an emergency board and management meeting, stating that they will formally communicate their position to the Ghana Football Association.

Hohoe United, competing in their debut top-flight season, have collected 30 points from 27 matches and currently sit in the bottom two. With seven games remaining, they still had a realistic chance of avoiding relegation.

Club officials say the decision has been driven by growing frustration over disciplinary action and what they describe as unfavourable treatment throughout the campaign.

Central to their concerns is a three-match home ban imposed after a security incident earlier in the season at the Hohoe Sports Stadium. The club argue that the timing of the ruling has significantly affected their survival chances, especially as 20 of their 30 points have been earned at home.

The sanction means Hohoe United would play only one of their remaining fixtures at their home ground, with six effectively away, even in matches where they are listed as the home side.

In addition, the club has raised concerns over officiating and the general handling of their matches, which they believe have contributed to their current position on the table.

While the decision is yet to be formally submitted to the Ghana Football Association, the move could attract further sanctions under league regulations if the withdrawal is completed.

The development marks a dramatic turn in what was meant to be a historic debut season, now overshadowed by controversy and uncertainty over the club’s immediate future.
