Former Vice President of Ghana and New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has revealed that his very first interview in Ghana was granted to him by the late Station Manager of Radio Univers, Dr. Abubakari Sadick Ahmed, popularly known as Alhaji.

Dr. Bawumia made this known during tributes rendered in honour of the late broadcaster at his funeral service held on Thursday, February 19, 2026, at his residence.

Speaking at the late Dr. Ahmed’s residence, Dr. Bawumia recounted how Alhaji offered him his first media interview upon his return to Ghana.

“I’ve never spoken on any radio or TV station, never, but he gave me my very first interview in Ghana, and I’ve never forgotten that,” he recalled.

He further narrated how their relationship grew into a long-lasting friendship that endured despite physical distance and demanding schedules.

“We’ve remained friends since then. He came for medical attention in South Africa, and he reached out to me at that time. We have maintained a close friendship,” he said.

Describing the late Alhaji as kind-hearted, soft-spoken, and highly intelligent, Dr. Bawumia said he lived a life worthy of emulation. He added that beyond mourning his passing, the living owe him prayers and continued support for the family he has left behind.

Alhaji Abubakari Sadick Ahmed passed away on Monday, February 17, 2026, at the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC), where he had been receiving medical treatment. He was 63 years old.
