Harakati Za Muungano, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting African unity, integration, and policy reforms for accelerated development across the continent, has opened a chapter at the University of Ghana (UG) main campus.
The chapter, launched on March 13, 2026, provides students of the University of Ghana with the opportunity to join and contribute to the movement’s vision of a more united and economically competitive Africa.
Speaking to Univers News, President of Harakati Za Muungano, Kwame Danquah, shed light on the organization’s mission and guiding principles.
“Harakati Za Muungano, as you know, is a Swahili phrase meaning ‘Union Movement.’ It is an aggregation of Pan-Africanists and patriotic Africans across the world who have made a resolute decision to work towards reforming the African system politically, economically, and socially. More importantly, we aim to establish a union either at the sub-regional level or across sub-Saharan Africa on the African continent,” he said.
Mr. Danquah also highlighted the organization’s plans to expand its presence in educational institutions across the continent and explained the motivation behind this strategy.
“Harakati Za Muungano currently has members across 15 African countries, and we are working to expand our reach. In our judgment, the pathway to Africa’s sustainable development is integration and union. We are convinced that in our independent and balkanized existence, African countries will continue to remain uncompetitive on the global stage,” he added.
The establishment of the Harakati Za Muungano chapter at the University of Ghana is expected to create a platform for students to engage in discussions on African integration, policy reform, and continental development while contributing to the broader Pan-African movement championed by the organization.
