The National Sports Authority (NSA) has officially closed the Baba Yara Sports Stadium for maintenance works to begin until the next round of international matches.

The stadium is expected to be ready for Ghana’s next home match on October 7, 2024.

With the Ghana Premier League to kick off tomorrow, Kumasi Asante Kotoko needs to find an alternative venue for their Ghana Premier League matches as soon as possible.

The Baba Yara Sports Stadium recently hosted Ghana’s 2025 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Angola, and its playing surface was heavily criticized by Ghanaians and foreigners most especially, Angola coach.

Despite Majeed Bawa, Deputy Director General of the NSA defense of the quality of the pitch at Baba Yara, the NSA has decided to close the facility until October for maintenance and to repair structures vandalized by fans following the Angola clash.

“Are they suggesting that the Angolans were playing in the sky? They are all footballers. Majeed Bawah revealed.

“I don’t want to blame the loss on the pitch, even though it wasn’t in good shape,” Black Stars Coach Otto Addo added

The 2024/25 Ghana Premier League season will start on Saturday, September 7, 2024.

The new season, which is expected to conclude on Sunday, June 8, 2025, would consist of 34 weekends with no official Midweek Matchday.
