GPL 24/25 MWK 8: unbeaten Gold Stars upset Hearts of Oak; Asante Kotoko held to a draw at Holy Stars

The 2024/25 Ghana Premier League saw a thrilling round of matches, with several teams delivering impressive performances.

Bibiani Gold Stars FC maintained their stellar performance with a thrilling 1-0 victory over Hearts of Oak, securing a three-point lead at the top of the Ghana Premier League table.

Samuel Atta Kumi’s 70th-minute goal proved decisive at the University of Ghana Stadium in match day 8. Hearts of Oak had a chance to level the score, but Hamza Issah’s 75th-minute penalty miss cost them dearly. Gold Stars FC’s unbeaten streak now extends to eight matches, with 18 points out of a possible 24, solidifying their position at the top of the table.

Nations FC bounced back with a convincing 3-0 win over Vision FC at the Dr. Kwame Kyei Sports Complex on Sunday, thanks to Faisal Chawetey’s brace (24′, 59′) and Richard Danso’s injury-time goal.

Meanwhile, Bechem United was held to a 0-0 draw by Karela United at the Nana Fosu Gyeabour Park.

Asante Kotoko drew 1-1 with Basake Holy Stars, with Albert Amoah scoring a sublime goal in the 34th minute, only for Prince Tweneboah to equalize in the 81st minute.

In other matches, Heart of Lions won 1-0 over Nsoatreman FC through Nana Oppong’s goal, ending their drawing streak.

Young Apostles FC edged Dreams FC 1-0 at home, courtesy of Daniel Lomotey’s 61st-minute goal.

Defending Champions, Samartex 1996 kept their title defense hopes alive with a narrow 1-0 win over Berekum Chelsea, thanks to Akwasi Sarpong’s 55th-minute strike.

Medeama SC gave up a 2-0 lead to draw 2-2 with Aduana FC in a rescheduled Premier League match on Monday morning. The match was initially called off on Sunday due to heavy rain with the score tied at 2-2. Medeama had taken a 2-0 lead through David Boison and Derrick Fordjour, but Aduana FC staged a comeback with two quick goals from Silas Kyeremeh and Abdul Latif Bamba in the 75th and 77th minutes. The match was eventually called off three minutes before full time due to the unplayable field conditions. Medeama remains third in the table with 15 points, while Aduana FC is 16th.
