Kumasi Asante Kotoko’s head coach, Prosper Narteh Ogum, has assured fans of the club to expect a complete turnaround from their recent slew of performances when they take to the pitch on Sunday to face league-chasing Sarmatex Fc at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

Kotoko, who have picked up one win in the second half of the ongoing season, face a rejuvenated Sarmatex who are in the gunning to win their first ever top flight trophy.

Kotoko’s only win in the second half of the season came after a 1-0 win against Bibiani Gold Stars on March 1, 2024.

The string of disappointing results and performances led some disgruntled fans to raid the team’s training camp, Adako Jachie, preventing team officials and players from training on Tuesday.

Head coach Prosper Narteh Ogum and Assistant coach David Ocloo, who were targeted by the supporters, were absent when the incensed fans stormed the team’s training facility.

The unfortunate happenings around the team, coupled with fans reactions, called for an emergency meeting put together by the life patron of the club, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II. The meeting involved the players, technical staff and the Interim Management Committee ( IMC) of the club, of which head coach Prosper Ogum is a member.

An immediate solution was, however, not found at the closure of the meeting, but players were encouraged by His majesty, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, to give their best anytime they don the Kotoko jersey.

In spite of the motivation rendered to the players by Otumfuo, the agitation of the large sect of the fanbase was still channeled at Prosper Ogum for leaving the club in a gloomy situation with 1 victory in their last 9 games, tallying the club’s worst loss returns in a season (11) since the 2006/07 season (10)

Ogum spear headed Kotoko to domestic glory in the 2021/22 season, ending an 8-year wait for domestic silverware.

Nonetheless, Prosper Ogum has assured fans the visit of title-chasing Sarmatex will bring a bit of fresh air to the struggling team as he aims for a complete turn around in performances

The likes of Rockie Dwamena, Andrews Ntim Manu, [Serge] Zeze, Shadrack Addo, they are there. So what we have to do is, we need to map a good tactical plan that will be able to contain them when we don’t have the ball and one that we map when we have ball, so we outwit them, He said.

So we have a solid, very vibrant, confident midfield. But I think we also have the men in the middle of the park…..They [fans] should expect a new performance, a new energy. Everything will be new on Sunday, in terms of our performance. The performance will go high, and we expect that at the end of the day, we’ll make them happy, he added

Kotoko are three points adrift of the relegation zone in 11th position with 33 points.
